CHENNAI: The Vadapalani police have launched a search for the DMDK's Tiruttani MLA Arun Subramanian's son-in-law who has been reported missing since Friday last.
Ramesh, the husband of Subramanian's daughter Nithya, had gone to Tiruttani to bring back his wife on Friday, his mother Rajakumari said in her complaint on Monday. She alleged that the MLA had chased away her son and that he could be behind Ramesh's disappearance.
A 'man missing' case was registered and a police team has left for Ramesh's native village of Thittakudi in Cuddalore district. Another team is keeping track of the tower location of his mobile phone. "His phone remains switched off," said an investigating officer.
Police are also interrogating Ramesh's relatives and are likely to question MLA Arun Subramanian in this connection.
Based on preliminary investigation, police said Nithya, a doctor, met Ramesh through a social networking site and the couple got married against her father's wishes in 2010. Three months ago, Nithya lodged a complaint with police alleging that Ramesh took her 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery and vanished with her car.
She also said that Ramesh had told her he was an aeronautical engineer but that he turned out to be a high school dropout. He had claimed he owned a few jewellery shops in the city and this, too, turned out to be false, she alleged.
Nithya had been staying with Ramesh and their child in the Vadapalani apartment, bought by her father two years ago. She then vacated the apartment and went to live with her parents in Tiruttani as she was not able to trace Ramesh, Nithya's complaint said.
